all about THE MOVE
By | August 19, 2011
Did you know I’m moving? Don’t get nervous. It’s a good thing! Visit me at the Tamarack Center, starting September 1st.
3575 Donald Street, Suite 230
Eugene, OR 97405
Here’s a map. Meanwhile, here’s the deal. Navigate yourself to the Tamarack, and drop your passengers off by the pool, if you want. There’s a traffic loop, and like 18 adaptive-access parking spaces and a ton of regular, including under a solar-panel-roofed shelter.

Walk along the covered walkway (because it rains a lot) to the door.

Here’s the waiting area! The doctor will be with you shortly.

Dr Wible and I are here on different days

The Tamarack folks and I have been working on remodeling and decorating and everything!
Here is a sneak preview.

“AFTER” pictures will come along presently.
Q & A regarding the move:
Q. Why is Dr. Leigh moving?
A. Although we’ve loved our downtown home with the Chiropractic Healing Center and the Bijou, we’re expanding to a new space that is larger, has more parking, and has a bathroom accessible from within the office (handy when you’re wearing an exam gown!). Many patients already go to the Tamarack Center regularly, and will find it convenient “one-stop shopping.” Additionally, Dr Pamela Wible (right next door) and I provide coverage for each other’s patients when we are out of town, which will simplify matters for everyone!
Q. I don’t have a car or bike. Is there a bus?
A. The #24 bus named Donald arrives from downtown in just 15 minutes, and departs from downtown just before the hour and half-hour, from early morning til late evening, Monday through Saturday (ending in the early evening on Sundays).
Tell the driver you’re going to “the Tamarack Center at Pearl and Donald.”
Fares: $1.50 one-way, $3.00 for a day pass, which lets you ride anywhere, all day!
There are also buses from Veneta, Junction City, Coburg, and Cottage Grove, apparently for the same fare.
Half-price for schoolkids, disabled, and Medicare cardholders; free for preschoolers (5 and under) and elders (65 and up).
See Lane Transit District’s website for details.
Q. What other resources are available at the Tamarack Center?
A. Lots!
~ The Tamarack Pool, a 92-degree* saltwater therapeutic pool, with special classes/sessions for people with chronic pain and mobility issues.
~ The Tamarack Fitness Center and personal trainers (aerobic, weights, etc.).
~ Eugene Yoga, offering classes in “gentle yoga,” “chair yoga,” and other accessible yoga practices.
~ Thrive! Chiropractic care.
~ Multiple independent massage therapists, Reiki and other specialty bodymind workers.
~ Acupuncture.
~ Huerto de la Familia (the Family Garden).
~ The Bridgeway House, for families including autistic-spectrum children.
*Note: During the hot summer months this year (August-September), the Therapy Pool will be temporarily closed.
Q. It’s been a while! How often should a person come in for a checkup?
A. Depends on your situation:
~ Most grownups should come in every two or three years for a general health review (1 hour – example, well woman exam, well man exam).
~ If you have a health issue that you take prescription medicine for, you should be seen every three to six months, to review the medicine and optimize your plan.
~ It’s a good idea to get a checkup when you turn 50 (or 45, or 40, depending on your history), since that’s when we recommend getting a bunch of baseline screenings for cancer.
~ Kids aged 3 to 16 should come in at least yearly (more often for illness/injury).
~ Babies and toddlers get growth and development checks in the first week and at 2 weeks, 1 month, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months, 15 months, 18 months, 2 years, and 2 years 6 months.
~ 18 years old is a nice time to establish a relationship with a primary doctor, when you are transitioning from pediatric to adult care.
Q. I emailed you 6 months ago, and you never answered my email!
Or, I think I might owe you money, and have felt shy about coming in.
Or, my insurance changed, and I have to see a different doctor now.
A. I’m sorry if you fell through the cracks, or felt uncomfortable! Feel free to email me, and we can discuss it. I’d also be happy to give you a free 30-minute visit – just like the free 30-minute “meet and greet” of a new patient – if you would like to review your situation, and discuss whether/how you’d like to start over (no new medical advice given*). As you know, I’m quite flexible, and non-judgemental. I appreciate your feedback!
Q. I now live outside your service area (Eugene-Springfield). Can I still come in?
A. This has to be considered on a case-by-case basis. If you have serious medical conditions (or take medications with serious side effects) that make it unsafe to have a primary doctor more than 30 minutes away from you, the answer is, “probably not.”
Your safety is important to me! I prefer that my patients live close enough to get to the office, or close enough for me to make a home visit or see them in the hospital, if they are seriously ill or injured. I would be happy to discuss this with you over email or during a free 30-minute consultation (no new medical advice given*).
*Did you know… that practitioners who have signed contracts with insurance corporations are not allowed to offer free advice? This goes double for Medicare!
It makes sense if you think about it: a “special deal” for some patients, while the insurance company pays the full price for others? Of course, if insurance companies are not involved, then doctors can make whatever arrangements patients will agree to.
In addition, a physician is not allowed by law to give medical advice to someone who is not formally their patient. They have to document that they performed a proper physical exam and took a complete history. The doctor is supposed to be accountable for the instructions/treatment they give and prescriptions they write.
This is why I am obliged to note to you that, under these circumstances, I can not give you medical advice!

We can thank my awesome daughter Zoe for the fresh paint!
